A red ruffed lemur staring at you with round yellow eyes from a black face, surrounded by a ruff of gold and orange fur. The body below is painted in rust, red and violet, running down in drips, with green and blue dots around. It is a portrait format; the boy in the photo is holding the 16 x 20 in size. It lives only in the rainforest of north-east Madagascar. The ring-tailed lemur is its better known cousin.
Why it is a limited edition
Each print is made in an edition of 150, and I sign and number every copy in pencil under the image. The edition is small so that every copy can be made properly: the file is scanned from the painting itself, printed on museum-quality cotton paper with archival pigment inks, compared with the original in daylight and corrected until the colours match, and only then signed. When the last copy is sold, the edition closes for good.
