A striped skunk with its tail up, which is the moment you are supposed to walk away, painted so that the tail takes up more of the sheet than the animal. The black fur is teal and plum, the white stripe is bare paper with a few strokes of pale blue, and the tail opens into a fan of turquoise and brown. Orange and violet splashes around it. It is a portrait format and one of the most reviewed of my small mammals, usually bought by someone who thinks skunks are underrated.
Each print is made in an edition of 150, and I sign and number every copy in pencil under the image. The edition is small so that every copy can be made properly: the file is scanned from the painting itself, printed on museum-quality cotton paper with archival pigment inks, compared with the original in daylight and corrected until the colours match, and only then signed. When the last copy is sold, the edition closes for good.
