Two harvest mice climbing on dried poppy heads, one at the top looking down and one below looking up. The harvest mouse is the smallest rodent in Europe, light enough to sit on a seed head without bending the stalk. The mice are painted in soft brown with the whiskers in fine lines, the poppy heads in violet and gold, and the background in yellow, orange and magenta. It is a portrait format and a favourite for a nursery or a kitchen.
The original watercolor painting is listed separately: see the original harvest mice painting.
Why it is a limited edition
Each print is made in an edition of 150, and I sign and number every copy in pencil under the image. The edition is small so that every copy can be made properly: the file is scanned from the painting itself, printed on museum-quality cotton paper with archival pigment inks, compared with the original in daylight and corrected until the colours match, and only then signed. When the last copy is sold, the edition closes for good.
