A blue tang in profile, the royal blue reef fish with the black marking along the back and the bright yellow tail and fin. The body is painted in several blues, from cobalt to indigo, with magenta along the edge, and around it are yellow, turquoise, peach and pink washes with dots. It is a landscape format. Children know it at once as Dory, and it is one of my most popular prints for a bathroom or a child’s room.
The original watercolor painting is listed separately: see the original blue tang painting.
Why it is a limited edition
Each print is made in an edition of 150, and I sign and number every copy in pencil under the image. The edition is small so that every copy can be made properly: the file is scanned from the painting itself, printed on museum-quality cotton paper with archival pigment inks, compared with the original in daylight and corrected until the colours match, and only then signed. When the last copy is sold, the edition closes for good.
