A balloonfish seen head-on, swimming straight at you with its big dark eyes, wide mouth and the two side fins spread like ears. The face is painted in violet and taupe with small dark spots, turquoise under the chin, and pink and orange along the top. Coloured dots around. It is a landscape format and one of the funniest faces in the shop. It is the porcupinefish that puffs itself into a ball of spines.
The original watercolor painting is listed separately: see the original balloonfish painting.
Why it is a limited edition
Each print is made in an edition of 150, and I sign and number every copy in pencil under the image. The edition is small so that every copy can be made properly: the file is scanned from the painting itself, printed on museum-quality cotton paper with archival pigment inks, compared with the original in daylight and corrected until the colours match, and only then signed. When the last copy is sold, the edition closes for good.
