A hyacinth macaw in profile, the largest parrot in the world, entirely cobalt blue except for the yellow ring round the eye and the yellow patch at the base of the huge black beak. The feathers of the breast are painted as overlapping blue shapes that run down into drips, with orange, peach and turquoise marks behind. It is a portrait format. The blue and yellow macaw and the green-winged macaw are the other two.
The original watercolor painting is listed separately: see the original hyacinth macaw painting.
Why it is a limited edition
Each print is made in an edition of 150, and I sign and number every copy in pencil under the image. The edition is small so that every copy can be made properly: the file is scanned from the painting itself, printed on museum-quality cotton paper with archival pigment inks, compared with the original in daylight and corrected until the colours match, and only then signed. When the last copy is sold, the edition closes for good.
