The beak is why anyone paints a puffin, so it gets the strongest colour on the sheet: orange, red and a line of yellow, with the grey-blue triangle at the base. The rest of the bird is quieter: white face, black back dissolving into dark green and teal drips, a ring of green and yellow splashes around the head. It is a portrait format and my most reviewed puffin; there is also a painting of a pair of puffins and one of the tufted puffin.

Each print is made in an edition of 150, and I sign and number every copy in pencil under the image. The edition is small so that every copy can be made properly: the file is scanned from the painting itself, printed on museum-quality cotton paper with archival pigment inks, compared with the original in daylight and corrected until the colours match, and only then signed. When the last copy is sold, the edition closes for good.
