A pair of northern cardinals on one branch, the female on the left in warm tan with a red bill and a touch of red in the crest, the male on the right in full crimson with the black mask. Yellow, green and pink washes behind them, with splatter and a few drips. It is a portrait format. In North America the cardinal is the bird people associate with someone they have lost, and this print is often bought in memory of a parent or as a gift for a couple.
Why it is a limited edition
Each print is made in an edition of 150, and I sign and number every copy in pencil under the image. The edition is small so that every copy can be made properly: the file is scanned from the painting itself, printed on museum-quality cotton paper with archival pigment inks, compared with the original in daylight and corrected until the colours match, and only then signed. When the last copy is sold, the edition closes for good.
