A Steller’s sea eagle in profile, the heaviest eagle in the world, from the coasts of Kamchatka and Hokkaido, with the enormous yellow beak that makes every other eagle look small. The feathers are painted one by one in blue-black and teal like scales, the eye is pale, and soft lilac and peach washes drip below. It is a portrait format; the boy in the photo is holding the 16 x 20 in size. The bald eagle is its close relative.
Why it is a limited edition
Each print is made in an edition of 150, and I sign and number every copy in pencil under the image. The edition is small so that every copy can be made properly: the file is scanned from the painting itself, printed on museum-quality cotton paper with archival pigment inks, compared with the original in daylight and corrected until the colours match, and only then signed. When the last copy is sold, the edition closes for good.
