A ruddy shelduck in close-up, the cream head and the dark eye, the black bill and the narrow black collar of the male, over a body of orange, rust and rose. The feathers are laid in loose wet patches and the background is left almost empty, with a little blue behind the head and black and blue splatter. It is a landscape format. The shelduck nests along the Black Sea coast here; the whistling duck is the other duck in the shop.
Why it is a limited edition
Each print is made in an edition of 150, and I sign and number every copy in pencil under the image. The edition is small so that every copy can be made properly: the file is scanned from the painting itself, printed on museum-quality cotton paper with archival pigment inks, compared with the original in daylight and corrected until the colours match, and only then signed. When the last copy is sold, the edition closes for good.
