A male painted bunting on a branch, seen from behind and looking left: the cobalt head, the lime green back, the red breast and the violet wings and tail. It is often called the most beautiful bird in North America, and the colours are not exaggerated. The branch is lilac with a pink flower and pale green leaves. It is a portrait format and goes mostly to the southern United States.
The original watercolor painting is listed separately: see the original painted bunting painting.
Why it is a limited edition
Each print is made in an edition of 150, and I sign and number every copy in pencil under the image. The edition is small so that every copy can be made properly: the file is scanned from the painting itself, printed on museum-quality cotton paper with archival pigment inks, compared with the original in daylight and corrected until the colours match, and only then signed. When the last copy is sold, the edition closes for good.
