Manatees float as if they weigh nothing, so I painted this one rising with its tail hanging down and the body in loose blue, violet and sea-green washes with no outline anywhere. The face is the one place I used a fine brush: the small eye, the bristled muzzle, the folds where the flippers meet the body. The splashes around it are the water. It is one of my most reviewed sea life paintings and pairs well with my blue sea turtle.
Each print is made in an edition of 150, and I sign and number every copy in pencil under the image. The edition is small so that every copy can be made properly: the file is scanned from the painting itself, printed on museum-quality cotton paper with archival pigment inks, compared with the original in daylight and corrected until the colours match, and only then signed. When the last copy is sold, the edition closes for good.
The frame is not included unless the option says Framed Canvas. Not sure which size fits your wall? Write to me with the width of the furniture under it and I will suggest one. Reproduction rights remain with the artist.
