Axolotl Art Print, Signed Limited Edition Watercolor

An axolotl head-on, smiling the way they do, with the six feathery gills spread out like a crown in red, pink and orange. The body is pale pink and peach with magenta in the shadows, the little black eyes and the wide mouth are drawn in a fine line, and there are turquoise washes and red splashes around it. It is a portrait format and one of my most reviewed prints for children’s rooms; the boy in the photo is holding the 16 x 20 in size.

Why it is a limited edition

Each print is made in an edition of 150, and I sign and number every copy in pencil under the image. The edition is small so that every copy can be made properly: the file is scanned from the painting itself, printed on museum-quality cotton paper with archival pigment inks, compared with the original in daylight and corrected until the colours match, and only then signed. When the last copy is sold, the edition closes for good.

• Small sizes ship flat in rigid cardboard, large sizes rolled in a hard tube, worldwide with tracking
