A red-legged partridge standing on a rock, the red bill and eye ring, the white throat bordered in black, the grey breast and the barred flanks in chestnut, black and cream. The legs are orange-red, the rock is painted in teal, umber and blue, and there are lilac, peach and yellow washes behind. It is a portrait format and goes mostly to France, Spain and Britain, where it is the partridge of the fields. The red grouse is its moorland counterpart.
Why it is a limited edition
Each print is made in an edition of 150, and I sign and number every copy in pencil under the image. The edition is small so that every copy can be made properly: the file is scanned from the painting itself, printed on museum-quality cotton paper with archival pigment inks, compared with the original in daylight and corrected until the colours match, and only then signed. When the last copy is sold, the edition closes for good.
