A cock pheasant in three-quarter view, the red wattle round the eye, the green and blue head, the white ring at the neck, and the breast in copper and violet with every feather tipped in black. The wing below is rust with white spots. Turquoise and peach washes behind, with brown drips. It is a portrait format, a natural choice for a country kitchen or a hunting lodge. The Reeves’s pheasant is the golden one.
The original watercolor painting is listed separately: see the original pheasant painting.
Why it is a limited edition
Each print is made in an edition of 150, and I sign and number every copy in pencil under the image. The edition is small so that every copy can be made properly: the file is scanned from the painting itself, printed on museum-quality cotton paper with archival pigment inks, compared with the original in daylight and corrected until the colours match, and only then signed. When the last copy is sold, the edition closes for good.
