A blue-winged kookaburra perched in profile, the big head with the pale eye, the heavy two-toned bill, the cobalt and turquoise wing with every feather drawn, and the rust tail barred in black. Turquoise and yellow washes behind with dots and a drip. It is a portrait format; the boy in the photo is holding the 16 x 20 in size. It goes mostly to Australia, where its laugh is the sound of the morning.
The original watercolor painting is listed separately: see the original kookaburra painting.
Why it is a limited edition
Each print is made in an edition of 150, and I sign and number every copy in pencil under the image. The edition is small so that every copy can be made properly: the file is scanned from the painting itself, printed on museum-quality cotton paper with archival pigment inks, compared with the original in daylight and corrected until the colours match, and only then signed. When the last copy is sold, the edition closes for good.
