A male guppy in profile, the body in cobalt and green and the enormous fan tail in orange and red patterned with black like a leopard skin. The dorsal fin has the same pattern. Yellow, pink and turquoise dots around. It is a landscape format. The guppy, or rainbow fish, is the first fish many people ever keep, and this print is often bought for a child with a first aquarium.
The original watercolor painting is listed separately: see the original guppy painting.
Why it is a limited edition
Each print is made in an edition of 150, and I sign and number every copy in pencil under the image. The edition is small so that every copy can be made properly: the file is scanned from the painting itself, printed on museum-quality cotton paper with archival pigment inks, compared with the original in daylight and corrected until the colours match, and only then signed. When the last copy is sold, the edition closes for good.
