A male African lion facing you with a calm, direct gaze, the mane painted in gold, umber and violet in long strokes and the face in tan and cream with fine white dots along the brow. The mane runs off the bottom in dark drips. It is a portrait format; the boy in the photo is holding the 16 x 20 in size. This is my most naturalistic lion, in the colours of the animal. The rainbow lion is the bold one, and the lioness is painted to match this.
Why it is a limited edition
Each print is made in an edition of 150, and I sign and number every copy in pencil under the image. The edition is small so that every copy can be made properly: the file is scanned from the painting itself, printed on museum-quality cotton paper with archival pigment inks, compared with the original in daylight and corrected until the colours match, and only then signed. When the last copy is sold, the edition closes for good.
