I called this one Spring. A woman with hair the colour of deep water looks straight out of the paper, and on her head a branch of cherry blossom has sprouted, with a pair of northern cardinals sitting in it, the male in his red and the female in her soft brown and orange. Behind them a round sun of pink and yellow drips down the page, because I let it. The face is painted quietly, in cool greys, so that the birds and the blossom get all the colour.
Why it is a limited edition
Each print is made in an edition of 150, and I sign and number every copy in pencil under the image. The edition is small so that every copy can be made properly: the file is scanned from the painting itself, printed on museum-quality cotton paper with archival pigment inks, compared with the original in daylight and corrected until the colours match, and only then signed. When the last copy is sold, the edition closes for good.
