She wears the beach on her head: a conch, a nautilus, spiral shells with their pink insides, long pointed turrets, all of them painted from the ones on my studio shelf. Behind her a round sea of deep blue, with little white dots like foam or stars, ringed by a line of ink stitches. The face is turned slightly, dark eyes and red lips, the only warm colours apart from the shells. People buy this one for bathrooms and for bedrooms by the sea.
Why it is a limited edition
Each print is made in an edition of 150, and I sign and number every copy in pencil under the image. The edition is small so that every copy can be made properly: the file is scanned from the painting itself, printed on museum-quality cotton paper with archival pigment inks, compared with the original in daylight and corrected until the colours match, and only then signed. When the last copy is sold, the edition closes for good.
